To celebrate Blogmas in my own way, and continue with my Holiday Hootenanny, I’ve decided to post once a day leading up to Christmas! Everyday I check my email and (almost) every day I have an email from Buzzfeed. I’m subscribed to a number of their newsletters (I mean, they have one solely dedicated to cats, so, yeah) and I love reading their articles about DIY projects, beauty, and lifestyle. I got an email recently about things they had done or tried in the month of November, and this recipe was included. Sugared Cranberries. It intrigued me. Because, let’s be honest, cranberries kind of suck on their own.
Supply List
- Mason jars
- Cranberries (about 1 1/4 cup per jar)
- Water
- Sugar
- Berry Christmas Labels
Instructions
1. Wash your cranberries and discard any bruised or broken. Pat dry and set aside in a bowl.
2. Make enough simple syrup to cover the amount of cranberries you have. Simple syrup is incredibly easy to make and can go in a plethora of recipes. It’s 1 part water to 1 part sugar. Combine the water and the sugar in a pot, and bring to a boil. Stir until sugar is dissolved and remove from heat. Let cool until it is lukewarm.
3. Take the bowl of cranberries and pour the simple syrup over them. Allow the cranberries to soak in the syrup overnight, or at least 5 hours.
4. Take a large ziplock bag and fill with the sugar. Drain the cranberries from the simple syrup and add them to the bag of sugar. Shake, shake, shake until they’re coated. Add more sugar if needed.
5. Grab a cookie sheet and line it with parchment paper. Spread out the cranberries to dry and place in the fridge for 2 hours.
6. While they’re drying, print out the Berry Christmas labels and stick them on the mason jar lids.
7. After the cranberries are completely dry, put about 1 1/2 cups into a jar and seal with the lid. Give to anyone and everyone on your gift list!
This is what I’m going to be making my co-workers and I think they’ll love it! Sugar makes everything better. :)
Be sure to stop by the #MerryBlogmas gifts link party and link up your most festive posts!
