Hi friends,
Like many of you, I’m sure, I had certain holiday traditions that I celebrated with my family growing up. Some holidays we’d watch certain parades, some holidays we’d go certain places, and some holidays we’d make certain foods. Every Easter my mom and I would make Resurrection Rolls. Well actually, my mom would make them with her 2nd grade class and I would ask her to make extra so I could eat the leftovers. But moving on…
Now that my mom isn’t a teacher anymore, but a principal, we make them Easter morning instead of with her class. We would always make them with frozen bread dough, but we would have to let it rise and it took a ton of time. This year, I decided to try and eliminate that step by using Crescent rolls.
You may be wondering “Why are they called Resurrection Rolls?” Good, glad you asked! While this is a delicious Easter breakfast / snack, this is also used to tell the story of Jesus’s Resurrection. Each ingredient represents something in the story. The marshmallow represents Jesus, the crescent rolls are the cloths that he was wrapped in, the butter and cinnamon sugar represents the embalming oil and anointing spices, and the oven represents the tomb.
Ingredients
- 1 package Crescent rolls
- 8 large marshmallows
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 tbsp. cinnamon
- 3 tbsp. sugar
Directions
- In a medium bowl, mix together the cinnamon and the sugar. Set aside. In a small bowl, melt the butter.
- Dip a marshmallow in the butter and then roll in the cinnamon sugar.
- Roll the marshmallow up in the Crescent roll, pinching the seams together.
- Dip the Crescent roll in the butter and then roll in the cinnamon sugar.
- Preheat the oven to 400° F and line a baking sheet with wax paper. Bake for 12 – 14 minutes.
- Let cool and enjoy!

Once the rolls have cooled take a bite and you’ll find that Jesus’ body is no longer there! He is risen, he is risen indeed!
What are some of your Easter holiday traditions?

I’m so glad I found your post! I wanted to do this last year but didn’t get to it before Easter. I plan to do it this year for sure! I love this idea.

Thanks so much for sharing this recipe! These look delicious. I love that these rolls have so much meaning!! This is going to sound so cheesy, but I thought they were called Resurrection because the middle was empty, as the tomb was on the 3rd day.
