Hi friends,
Welcome to the July Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop! The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! This month, I specifically wanted to make a jewelry piece. I used to love making jewelry, in fact, it was one of my favorite elective classes in college! I have always loved the look of druzy quartz jewelry, but it can get pretty pricey. So when I stumbled upon this pin from Darby Smart, I knew I had to give it a try!
First things first, know ahead of time that your hands are going to get messy. The biggest component is glitter and we all know it’s the herpes of craft supplies. But, with the end result, it’s totally worth it.
Supply List
- open pendant (in whatever metal you choose)
- coordinating metal chain
- coordinating metal clasp (my favorite is a barrel clasp)
- glitter (in whatever color you choose)
- mod podge
- paint brush
- jewelry pliers
Instructions
1. The package of pendants I purchased (woah, tongue twister) contained 3 but I only used 1 for this project. I applied a layer of mod podge into the pendant and spread to the edges with the paint brush. In hindsight, getting a small squeeze bottle of mod podge like Darby Smart had may have been the best route. No messy paint brush and easier clean up. Oh well. For next time!
2. After the layer of mod podge was applied, I sprinkled glitter all over it.
3. I applied another layer of mod podge and repeated steps 2-3 until I had the depth I felt looked good with my size pendant.
4. Shake off any loose glitter and lightly press your finger in to create some peaks and valleys. This will make it look more like a real druzy quartz and not a flat, glittery pendant. Let completely dry. Also, notice the glittery mess I have become!
5. Once the pendant was completely dry, I measured out how long I wanted my chain. Because of where I wanted the pendant to lay, I cut mine to 36″.
6. I threaded my druzy pendant onto the chain and then attached the barrel clasp on each end of it.
7. Easy as pie! If you look closely, you can still tell that it’s just glitter. But from far away it’s super druzy-esque!
Have you every DIYed jewelry before? This DIY Faux Druzy Necklace may be an all time favorite and I’m thinking that a matching pair of earrings may be in the near future.

That is so pretty! I love making my own jewelry but rarely actually make the time to sit down and do it. Pinned.

What a beautiful piece. Tell me about that glitter. It isn’t the little tiny pieces of glitter, I am assuming. It’s chunkier stuff, right? Just love how easy this is and the final results!

I love it! Simple yet it has a big impact – the best kind of project! My favorite part was when you referred to glitter as the “herpes of craft supplies”. Made me snort laugh! :)
