Hi friends,
So as many of you know, this past summer I moved and changed careers. I can honestly say that I have never been more excited to go to work every day than I am now. And while I absolutely adore my new job, there are still some days where I get a little stressed.
There are different ways that I typically relieve stress; clean / organize things, read a good book, or take a bubble bath. But I can’t really do any of those things when my students are in my classroom. I needed something that would allow me to relax when I’m at my desk and the idea of getting a zen garden popped into my mind. But those can get pretty expensive if I bought it, so I decided to DIY it!
Supply List
- small – medium glass bowl
- rocks
- sand
- succulent or other figurine
- toothpick
Instructions
1. Take your glass bowl and quickly give it a good cleaning.
2. Fill the bottom inch with your rocks. I got these white rocks from the dollar store but you could also do something like river rocks.
3. Pour in the sand on top of your rocks. The amount is really up to you but I filled up to about the center of the bowl.
4. Add your figurine on top. I added a small succulent and some white rocks surrounding it.
5. Finally, take your toothpick and start creating patterns in the sand!
It’s surprising how completely relaxing it is to draw in the sand and I just love messing around with it during my day.
How do you relax at your work?

I need to make one and sit it right beside my computer! I could definitely use some zen!
