Hi friends,
Hooooowwwww is it Auuuuguuuuuust? Seriously, the beginning of August is the Sunday night of summer and all teachers everywhere are just dying inside. And while I’m slowly dying inside because summer is over, I’m really stoked for some fun things I have planned this school year. Starting with a bomb . com art teacher outfit that I’m planning on wearing on my first day of school!
It is ENTIRELY crayon themed, and I’m super excited about it but I’m going to be sharing it in 3 parts. First up, my DIY crayon sneakers!
Supply List
- plain canvas sneakers
- fabric paint (crayon color of choice, white, black)
- paintbrushes
- paint palette
- painter’s tape
- mod podge
Instructions
1. Remove the shoelaces and set to the side.
2. Sketch out the design on your shoe. Because I wanted mine to look like a crayon, I created 2 areas at the front and back where the wax of the crayon would be, laid out where the wrapper would be, and added the designs that the wrapper has on it.
3. Once the design was sketched on both shoes, I applied painters tape around the bottom to protect the rubber that I wanted to keep white. To make it easier, work with small pieces so you can easily get around the curves of the shoe.
4. Paint the front and back areas with your crayon color of choice fabric paint. Really make sure that the paint is getting into all of the fibers. I also made sure to wrap my paint around the edges into the inside of the shoe.
5. To create the wrapper, I mixed even amounts crayon color with white. I made sure to mix a lot of it so I wouldn’t have to try and mix another batch mid-painting. Paint the wrapper areas.
6. Fill in the last spots with black. I really thought about personalizing my shoes with “Miss Fox” where the “Crayola” would go on the side, but I figured the shoelaces would get in the way and it’d be pointless. Still thinking about it though…
7. Finally, seal everything with Mod Podge and let completely dry.
8. Remove the painter’s tape, lace ’em back up, and rock those DIY crayon sneakers!
