Hi friends,
So on Memorial Day weekend, aside from there being loads of yard sales to hit up, there were also some great deals happening that I just had to check out. I was on the hunt for a good camera. I had a pretty good idea about what I wanted, but the girl who helped me at Best Buy was just awesome. I explained what I did for a living, what I was going to use the camera for, and she guided me in the right direction.
It came with a strap, but it’s itchy and really uncomfortable when I wear it for a while. Therefore, a new one had to be made.
Supply List
- 6″ x 32″ piece of fabric
- Scrap piece of leather
- 4 split key rings (2 large, 2 small)
- 2 hook carabiners
- Needle & thread / sewing machine
- Pen
Taking your fabric, fold in half so the patterned side is not seen. Using either a sewing machine or hand stitching, sew side together.
After it’s sewn together, turn it right side out.
Take your piece of leather and draw out a large rectangle, 1 1/2″ x 4″. Make a mark down the middle. Draw a shape similar to mine on one side and then mirror it on the other. Cut out and repeat for another piece.
This is what your 2 pieces should look like.
Take your large key rings and slide it onto the leather at the middle point.
Fold the end of your fabric so that it’s a triangular shape and fit it into the leather. Once it’s in a space that you’re happy with, pin it into place. If you have a sewing machine needle that’s suitable for leather, use that. If you don’t, hand stitch it.
Add the hook carabiners to the large key rings and the small key rings to the camera body. Hook the carabiners onto the smaller key rings and you’re done!
Yay! Now my pretty new camera has a pretty new accessory. This DIY camera strap is much more my style. :)
I’m linking up to these great parties!

I love it. My old camera strap hurts my neck. I like that I could make a new one that is softer on the neck, and it looks like I could do it without a sewing machine.
