Hi friends,
Welcome to the February Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop! The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! So this month, I chose to try and create a copycat recipe of my all-time favorite guilty pleasure snack based on Table for Two‘s pin.
I’m 115% obsessed with Snyder’s Honey Mustard & Onion Pretzel Pieces. They’re so, so good but I die a little when I have to pay about $5 for a teeny tiny bag, which is why they’re my guilty pleasure snack. Because I feel so guilty for paying so much for such deliciousness! So when I came across a pin promising that this recipe would be an exact dupe to the honey mustard & onion pretzel snack I love to much, I knew I had to give it a go!
Ingredients
- 12 oz sourdough hard pretzels
- 2/3 cup vegetable oil
- 3 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp onion powder
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit and line a large baking sheet with silicone baking mats or parchment paper.
-
In a large bowl, whisk together vegetable oil, honey, yellow mustard, and onion powder.
-
Smash the sourdough hard pretzels against your countertop into bite-size pieces.
-
Pour the pretzels into the mixture and toss well to coat every piece.
-
Pour the pretzels onto the baking sheet and spread them out in an even layer.
-
Bake for 30 minutes, tossing/turning the pieces halfway through baking.
-
Remove from oven, let cool, then store in an airtight container.
Alright, I call bull on the whole promise of tasting exactly like the store bought version. All I can taste is the vegetable oil. In fact, the recipe should be renamed “Vegetable Oil Pretzels with a Slight Dusting of Honey Mustard & Onion” because literally that’s what it tastes like. The name isn’t as catchy, but it’s 100% accurate. So while this recipe was a definite Pinterest Fail, I look forward to trying something new next month!

These pretzels look like a yummy delicious snack. Pretzels, pita chips so good, but expensive for a tiny bag. I can’t wait to try them. #PinterestChallenge

These sound like the perfect snack for a family game night. We usually have pop corn but I think everyone is getting tired of it. Thanks for sharing.

Can’t believe I missed the original pin! This is something I would totally pin so I’m happy to pin your recipe! This looks like a great snack and perfect for a party too!

I’m sorry the recipe didn’t work out for you. You’ll have to try again and see if cutting the oil a bit, and adding more of the honey and mustard helps. Sometimes it’s all about finding the right ratio. Pinning for later. Have a happy day, friend.

That’s disappointing that they didn’t turn out as promised in the inspiration pin. I’ve had a few of those kinds of pinterest fails, too. They look delicious, though!

It sounds like a great recipe. I am sorry to hear it wasn’t as expected. Do you think you can use coconut oil instead? Or experiment with the amount of oil to use. Don’t give up on it because it does sound good.

I love those pretzels and you’re right, paying the price for them is way too much. I’m sorry the recipe didn’t turn out as you had hoped. Are you planning on trying again with less oil, or a different oil (coconut oil sounds good)? Pinning in hopes you’ll update with a SUCCESS in the future!

We can’t win them all, can we? I’ve experienced many a Pinterest fail myself. Most recently with a copycat Olive Garden Tiramisu recipe. Nope! It wasn’t even close. You should console yourself with a bag of the real thing :) That’s what I did :)

Oh darn. I love honey mustard pretzels, so sad to hear this recipe didn’t stand up to its promise. I’m wondering if you could cut way down on the oil and increase the honey and mustard?

That’s too bad the recipe didn’t turn out as well as the store-bought version because your photos make it look delicious.
