Hi friends,
Ready for another Fox Den Feature? I know I am! Let’s meet Jessica!
Inside the Fox Den: Describe your blog in 2 sentences.
Beyoutiful Beauty: Beyoutiful Beauty is a self-love, body positive, beauty and lifestyle blog. It’s all about being your true, wild, wonderful, fantastic selves!
ITFD: When did you start blogging and what made you want to get into it?
BB: I started blogging about two and a half years ago. I wanted to combine my love of makeup, writing and creativity into one place. I loved watching beauty videos on YouTube and reading beauty blogs, and I wanted to share my thoughts as well.
ITFD: What’s your favorite blog post / project that you’ve created?
BB: Self-Love Saturday is one of the things I’m most proud of creating, for sure. It’s a weekly series where I feature awesome bloggers, what self-love means to them, what they’d tell their younger selves, etc. It’s really inspiring to learn about other wonderful bloggers, and I’ve learned so much about myself and my blog since starting the series at the beginning of this year.
ITFD: What’s your favorite social media channel and why?
BB: Twitter is one of my favorite social media channels because it’s so fun and easy to connect with such a wide variety of people.
ITFD: What is your must have blogging resource?
BB: I’ve recently become a big fan of Canva. I’m not very good at creating images for my blog, and Canva makes it easy with templates and lots of great free features.
ITFD: What is your biggest blogging pet peeve?
BB: My biggest blogging pet peeve is people who aren’t being genuine. It can be scary to be vulnerable, but always be yourself!
ITFD: What’s a fun thing you do when you’re not blogging?
BB: I love to play with my dog Bella, a mix of a black lab and a dachshund. I also love to read books from just about any genre and play around with makeup!
ITFD: How would you describe your personal aesthetic or style?
BB: I’d say my style is classic, laid back and feminine.
ITFD: What’s one thing on your bucket list?
BB: Write a book.
ITFD: If you were a box of cereal, what kind would you be and why?
BB: I’d be Cinnamon Life because 1., it was my favorite as a kid, and 2., it’s an interesting, different twist on something simple!
ITFD: What is the funniest thing that’s happened to you recently?
BB: I went to the dentist to get a cavity fixed, so half of my mouth was numb for a few hours. And of course I had a meeting where I had to talk, but it was difficult with part of my mouth numb. I kept trying to talk normally, but it just wasn’t going well, haha. I sounded ridiculous, and it was hilarious.
ITFD: What are you currently jamming out to?
BB: I have a playlist on Spotify called Current Faves, and I add new music to it all the time. Some of my current favorite artists are Dorothy, Adele, Michael Buble, Karmin, Halestorm and more. I like pretty much any kind of music!
ITFD: What is your favorite store to shop for home goods?
BB: I love Marshall’s, Home Goods and TJ Maxx, as well as Gordmans and Target.
ITFD: What words of wisdom would you give to newbie bloggers?
BB: Keep trying new things, and don’t be afraid to express yourself. Be vulnerable, be yourself and always be kind to both yourself and others.
ITFD: What do you hope to accomplish (blog or personal wise) in the next year?
BB: want to keep making meaningful connections with other bloggers and start more series on my blog, potentially as collaborations with other bloggers, too.
As a girl with combo/oily skin, I have a love-hate relationship with summer. I love the nice weather and being able to wear dresses, but I hate how shiny, sweaty and oily my face seems to get whenever I go outside.
Okay, maybe it’s not quite that bad, but you get what I mean. It’s hard to stay mattified and not like a sweating, oily mess in the summertime. Well not any more! Through my own trial and error process, I’ve discovered some hacks that have totally changed my skincare and makeup game.
1. Wash and moisturize your face every morning and every night.
It may seem like a pain, but I promise it really, really helps. And using just facial wipes doesn’t count. I use facial wipes every night, but I also use a facial cleanser afterwards. The double cleansing method has made a big difference in the look and feel of my skin. I’ve noticed my makeup goes on smoother, my skin feels softer and I don’t get oily as often when I do this regularly. And I’ve found it works best if you use a deeply hydrating moisturizer at night and a lighter, oil free (or even mattifying) formula during the day. My favorite cleanser is the Pacifica Kale Detox Deep Cleaning Face Wash. My favorite light moisturizer is Garnier SkinActive Clearly Brighter Brightening & Smoothing Daily Moisturizer with SPF 15, and my favorite deeper moisturizer is jojoba oil.
2. Exfoliate and use face masks at least once or twice a week.
Yes, both of those things. I never realized how important scrubs and masks were until I started working at Ulta a few years ago. Skincare is seriously the most important thing you can do for yourself, and scrubs and masks are a big part of that. Scrubs are great for getting all the dead skin cells and any flakiness off your face. Masks are great for a variety of reasons, including moisturizing, rejuvenating, even exfoliating. Sometimes you don’t realize you have product buildup on you face until you do a scrub and/or mask. My favorites are Pacifica Glow Baby Youthful Scrub and Andalou Naturals Pumpkin Honey Glycolic Mask. If you don’t want to get a store-bought scrub or mask, there are hundreds of DIY recipes floating around Pinterest to try!
3. Use a mattifying primer just in your T-zone.
If you get really oily skin, you could apply a mattifying primer all over your face. But if you have combination skin, put it just in your T-zone to avoid getting dry patches in other areas of your face. My favorite is the Lorac Porefection Mattifying Face Primer. I use it all over my face because it helps smooth and create a nice base for my makeup.
4. Blotting tissues are your new BFF.
I keep them in my purse, on my desk at home and in the bag I bring to work every day. These have saved my makeup and my sanity. Not all blotting tissues are made the same, though. Experiment with a few different brands or types to see what works best for you. My favorites are the Boscia Pink Peppermint Blotting Linens.
5. Pressed powder is your new frenemy.
Pressed powder works wonders for mattifying and adding more coverage, but if you add too much, it can look cakey and/or really powdery. I use one pressed powder in the morning when I’m getting ready, and I keep a compact of a different pressed powder in my purse for touch ups. I find pressed powder works better for me than loose because it’s easier to use and it’s not quite as messy. Make sure to use blotting tissues before powder, though, because then you’ll just be temporarily mattifying your face but the oil will start to peek through again. My favorite one for home is the Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder, and my favorite compact is L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Powder.
Everybody’s skin is different, so play around with these tips and see what works best for you. Once you conquer your skin, you can conquer anything. Happy summer!

I definitely struggle with my skin a bit in the summer – I always feel like I’m “shimmering” anytime I’m outside. I already keep blotting papers with me, but I’m going to try a few of your other tips, too!
