Hi friends,
Welcome to the first post of 2017! Woooaaaahhhh. Writing 2017 instead of 2016 is strange. Can you believe it’s 2017 already? It literally seems like I was writing last year’s top ten post yesterday.
Last year I paired this post with my annual letter to the past year as a reflection back on all of the amazing things that happened. I’ll still be writing that post, but I decided to split it up this year and post them separately. I’m super excited to get back into blogging this year after taking some time off but I’m gonna ease myself back into it. So be on the lookout for my Open Letter to 2016 next Thursday!
But now let’s get into the top ten posts of 2016!
I have a small problem with books. More specifically, I have a problem with not finishing them and then having a huge stack lying around. Come on, I can’t be the only one! So to help myself remember where I left off in each book, I created 10 different bookmarks with a watercolor & quote design. Not only is this my most popular post of 2016, this is my most popular printable ever!
This was such a fun DIY project! I love big art prints but I was having a hard time finding something that worked in my living room space. Diet Coke was doing a fun campaign with unique glass bottles and I was so inspired by the different designs that I used it as a start to create my own abstract art! In this tutorial I walk you through step by step to create an easy abstract piece that fits into any space. Diet Coke even liked it so much that they shared it on their Facebook page!
Alright, this is probably my favorite DIY project that I did this year. Possibly of all time. I was asked to be a guest blogger over on Adventures of a Creative Girl earlier this year and this project had been rattling around in my brain for sometime. I pitched the idea to ACG, they loved it, and this beautiful terrarium was born! I’m still so obsessed with it and it gets countless compliments. People can’t believe that it’s a DIY!
4. DIY Cloche – Thrift Store Upcycle
So while my terrarium was my favorite DIY project this year, this cloche is a close second. I had wanted a decorative cloche for ages but I held off because I could not justify the prices. When I was out shopping for a Thrift Store Upcycle challenge I found a broken dome clock and transformed it into something super chic!
5. How I Planned All of my Blog Posts for the Entire Year
Yep, that’s right. Last year in January I shared that I had planned out all of the blog posts I would write in 2016 and I gave you 5 tips for how you could too! Once you break it down into manageable chunks it becomes a whole lot easier! Now, I will openly admit, life kind of got in the way of the blog in 2016 but 2017 will be great, I can feel it!
In June I announced that I would be taking the majority of the summer off from blogging because of a move and career change, and I had some incredibly supportive friends in the blogging community. One was Ivy from Perfectly Ambitious and she agreed to be a guest blogger where she created this easy and awesome popsicle shelf that’s in the shape of a hexagon! You know me and my obsession with hexagons. ;)
7. Jewelry Storage Shelf – Thrift Store Upcycle
For the first installment of the Thrift Store Upcycle Challenge (coming back this month!) I took this weird mini stair-shelf thing and turned it into a chic jewelry storage solution.
8. Chic DIY Kitty Litter Storage
OK, chic and kitty litter in the same title? Yep, that’s right. Yinz know I’m a future crazy cat lady but I’m all about effective storage solutions. When I tried out Fresh Step’s new Total Control with Febreze it was a total game changer, but I wasn’t crazy about the container it came in. I had this tin from IKEA sitting around and I decided to stencil “kitty litter” on in fancy, rose gold colored letters.
You can definitely say that 2016 was the year of rose gold-ing all the things. I bought this side table when I left for college because I needed something cheap and functional, but then it just sat and collected dust. It was still perfectly functional…just super ugly. I loved the trend of the marble and rose gold combo so when I came across some marble contact paper and rose gold spray paint I knew that this table could be displayed again!
10. Cherry Blossom Frappuccino Recipe
When Starbucks released their limited edition Cherry Blossom Frappuccino in the spring, I was totally infatuated. But that was the problem. I was obsessed but it was only available for so long! So I set out on a mission to make my own lactose-free version and now I can have them whenever I want!
Well, those were the most popular posts of 2016! Which post was your favorite? Did your fave not make the list? Let me know down below in the comments!
