Hi Friends,
So remember when I started this blog thing and wanted to bring you along for my crazy ride of owning my own home? And how I promised posts of renovations, updates, and the many DIY projects I would do? Well I think it’s about time I started on that.
While I’ve lived here for almost 7 months now, I’ve taken my sweet time getting settled. I still have boxes sitting in corners that I’m completely content to leave there until I need the items inside. #noshame
But taking my sweet time has also meant that I haven’t done as many house projects as I would’ve liked. That stops here. I am taking control and dedicating time to spend on my little house. First up: the living room.
The living room is probably the most used room in any home. You want it to be inviting for guests and a place for you to relax when you’re alone. You also want it to reflect the style of you and your home.
I mentioned in a previous post that my living room lacked light. Which it does. I want the overall tone of my living room (and my whole house) to be bright and cheerful. The use of pastel colors with splashes of jewel tones really helps with that. I’m using my color scheme as part of a honeycomb accent wall, which will pop against the white background.
To help with the brightening of the walls, I mentioned before that I want hardwood throughout. I’m not sure when I’ll install due to my budget, but it will happen eventually down the road.
I also desperately want a gray sofa and am torn between getting a sectional or a mid century modern design. If it fits, I’ll get a sectional. Unfortunately all of the ones I’ve found are a tad too big for the space. Hopefully I can make it work. Regardless of sofa choice, however, I love sofas that have heaps and heaps of pillows. It’s happening, and I’m excited.
I love that I’ve been able to furnish my entire house via thrift stores, yard sales, and hand-me-downs. But most of these things are in need of some definite revamping. My coffee table and end tables are going to get a serious makeover.
Finally, as a last stitch effort to help the lack of light, I’ll be searching for / making some pendants for the space above my built ins. I haven’t found “it” yet, but I’m still on the hunt for something that has a fun geometric feel to it.
So throughout the month of February I’ll be sharing with you some of the projects I’m undertaking and I’ll show you the finished product when I’m finished! Fingers crossed that I’ll finish by the end of the month / middle of March…
Stay tuned!
