Hello, friends!
As much as I wanted to get this up last Thursday and keep up with my bi weekly posting, a flooded basement and flying bright and early the next morning prevented me from doing so. In all honesty, I probably won’t stick with that schedule until after the New Year. Life’s just a little too crazy at the moment. But we prevail!
I have a confession to make, I have a slight obsession with anything string art. I think it’s just fabulous. But you probably already knew that if you read last week’s post. And one of my absolute favorite Christmas songs is “Go Tell It On The Mountain”. I remember very vividly singing it at the top of my lungs in children’s church. So loud.
With this week’s Dare to DIY party being about “Decking the Halls”, I wanted to create something that I would love displaying time and time again. So combining string art with my favorite song? It was destiny.
I had a random piece of wood in my basement (thank you, previous owner) that I sanded down and spray painted silver.
After it’s dry, I took some stencils that I had lying around and laid them out. Because my stencil set only comes with 1 copy of each letter and doubles of the vowels, I had to use some place fillers. Don’t worry, it will not say “Go Tel_ Ik On She”. That would be weird. ;)
Once I had them spaced how I wanted, I sponged on some black acrylic paint.
After the black paint was dry, I removed the stencils.
Next I *very, very lightly* drew with pencil where I wanted my mountains. I overlapped some, had multiples in others, and had ones who stood alone.
After I had that sketched out, I began hammering away. I continued this until I had my mountain skyline.
Because of my color scheme, I chose to use shades of green for my mountains. Feel free to use any color you want. Make those mountains purple if your little heart desires! String away!
Oh, I just love it so much. It’s the perfect addition to my mantel.
