#YouGottaBeKittenMe #CollectiveBias #ad
Hi friends,
So if you don’t know by now, I’m a self-proclaimed future crazy cat lady. If I could have 50 cats in my home, I totally would. Unfortunately, I don’t run my house…
…Ninja does. And she’s proclaimed that she’s the only cat that can live in the house right now. To which I say, #YouGottaBeKittenMe! But it’s ok though, because she’s my little fluffer-butt and I love her to pieces. She’s been my trusty sidekick through it all; from buying my first home to sitting next to me every time I write a blog post. I mean, c’mon. Just look at that face!
Because she’s the best, she deserves the best. The best food, the best toys, and, of course, the best litter. Not only is this something that she appreciates, but I definitely do too so my house doesn’t stink. I was grocery shopping at Sam’s Club one day when I walked down the pet aisle to pick up Ninja’s favorite cat food, and stumbled across Fresh Step Total Control with the Power of Febreze. I had never tried it before and was intrigued for a few reasons.
First, it was almost completely sold out at my Sam’s Club! So that had to have meant that it was a favorite among cat ladies like myself. Second, it comes in a 42lb. bag that has a handle and a resealable bag, which makes it super easy to store. Third, this particular cat litter is only available at Sam’s Club where a $3.50 off coupon will be loaded to member’s cards and will be offered in the May Instant Savings Book valid from May 11 through June 5, 2016. It’s already a great price and this makes it even better!
Finally, it has 2 aspects of odor blocking technology. It has Borate Technology for superior ammonia control (which is fancy science talk for inhibiting the growth of odor-causing bacteria) and has the scent of lemongrass-citrus for a “fresher” aroma. As summer is fast approaching, the litter box always gives off a worse smell in the heat so I try and mask it any way I possibly can. And I gotta say, I’ve been using this litter for a couple weeks now and there has been absolutely NO ODOR! So yeah, it’s safe to say that Ninja and I are fans.
While the resealable bag does make it easier to store I, unfortunately, am low on storage in my home and have to often find other storage solutions. Typically, the kitty litter will just sit next to the litter box. But I was tired of that and wanted a kitty litter storage solution that was chic and stylish. So that’s what I did!
Supply List for Chic DIY Kitty Litter Storage
- bucket with handles and lid
- copper / rose gold spray paint
- white spray paint
- contact paper
- Fresh Step Total Control with the Power of Febreze
Instructions for Chic DIY Kitty Litter Storage
1. I knew I wanted the accent color to be rose gold, so I sprayed a little section of the bucket that color. This will ensure that, with the final product, the lettering will appear rose gold.
2. I used my Cricut to cut out the words “kitty litter” in a font of my choice. Contact paper is a great (cheap) alternative to vinyl and creates the same result when you’re using it as a stencil.
3. Remove the backing from the contact paper and apply the lettering to the bucket on center.
4. Spray paint the whole bucket & lid white, let dry.
5. Spray paint any hardware rose gold, let dry.
6. Once dry, remove the contact paper to reveal the rose gold lettering underneath.
7. Fill with Fresh Step Total Control with the Power of Febreze and put it on display!
I really love this project and how I created a chic kitty litter storage solution. And I thought later, if you don’t need a kitty litter storage solution, this DIY can also be adapted for food or toys.
Although Ninja has a pretty awesome set up here as the only cat in the house, I still wish I could adopt more to give some sweet fluffy faces a home. But while Ninja nixed that idea right away, we thought of another way to help our furry friends. We dontaed $100 to The Humane Society of North West Pennsylvania (NWPA), the same humane society where I adopted Ninja and we became BFFs! Hopefully with this donation more animals can be rescued and some other cat lady can find her furry best friend. :)
So don’t forget, if you love your cat as much as I love Ninja, be sure to stop at Sam’s Club and pick up a bag of Fresh Step Total Control with the Power of Febreze!

haha this is so chic! I’m not sure my cat Squeakers would appreciate it, but I’m sure my husband would rather look at this than the regular bag.

This came out super pretty! My mom is adopting a cat this weekend and would be very interested in hiding her litter. Thanks for sharing! #client

That’s really cute! The litter boxes and litter are in the basement where no one really goes so I have no need for a nice storage container. But I might just do it for my own benefit. Will also be looking for that litter. With 3 cats, odor control is an issue. #ShineBlogHop

oh my gosh! Yes I love this….how cute is this!!! I need to do this stat, since our cat is super chill, she doesn’t mess with the litter but our child does, so we’d have to put this on display where she can’t get to it.
Where did you find your cute metal tin? Also do you just lift the entire tin up to pour in new litteR?
