Hi friends,
You guys know I love yard saling. Like, it’s in the top 10 of my favorite things to do.
A few weeks ago I went to one that I thought was going to be a little larger but it was tiny and I was a tad disappointed. But I did manage to walk away with this breadbox that I got for $1. You really can’t beat that. And I had been wanting to get a bread box for some time so it was fate!
But the whole apple motif just wasn’t my thing. It would look great in my nana’s kitchen (whose theme is apples) but I felt that it needed an updated makeover.
I began by sanding the entire box. It would’ve been soooo much easier if I could’ve taken it apart, but alas, the woodworking gods were not smiling down on me and it stayed in one piece for the entire process. Bye bye, apple decal!
After it’s sanded and the dust is cleaned off, apply a coat of primer and a coat of paint. And have a Diet Coke…or two. No judgments here! ;)
I knew I wanted it to say something on the front, but I wasn’t sure what. I ended up creating this template that says “Fresh Bread, Baked Daily” with an image of wheat next to it.
I cut around the letters, turned it over, and colored the back with chalk.
I turned it right side up and placed it where I wanted on the front of my bread box and secured with painter’s tape.
I then took a pen and traced over the lines of the text and symbol.
By doing this I transferred the chalk to the bread box and I had an outline of where to paint. Don’t worry, the chalk wipes off after you’ve painted!
All finished! As you can see I decided to fill in the letters instead of the diagonal pattern. Because let’s be honest, ain’t nobody got time for that.
I think it looks so much better! Definitely fits in with my almost complete kitchen!
Have you ever transformed something you found at a yardsale?
I’m linking up to these great parties!
